The Scrutiny Committee is politically balanced
and has 11 members.
Our Scrutiny Committee meets in public to
review and scrutinise our performance. It can also hold our Cabinet
to account for its actions. The Scrutiny Committee has a key role
in considering other matters of local concern.
Our Scrutiny
Committee will
- Review and / or scrutinise decisions
made or actions taken
- Make reports and / or
recommendations to the Council and / or the Cabinet and / or any
other body as appropriate
- Consider any matter affecting the
area or our residents;
- Call-in decisions made by Cabinet
but not yet put into practice to give them an opportunity to
reconsider
Our Scrutiny
Committee may
- Review individual decisions made by
officers or Cabinet members, the performance of the Cabinet,
Committees and Council officers
- Review performance against
policy objectives and targets of our Council
- Question members of
our Cabinet and Committees and appropriate officers about
decisions and performance
- Make recommendations to our
Cabinet, Committees and Council based on scrutiny
findings
- Review performance of other
public service bodies in our area and invite comments about
performance from them and local people
- Question and gather evidence
Are Scrutiny
Committee meetings open to the public?
Scrutiny Committee meetings are open to the
public and you are welcome to attend. On rare occasions it might be
necessary to exclude members of the public, for instance when
personnel matters or commercially sensitive information are being
discussed.
Public speaking
As a member of the public you are able to
speak at Scrutiny Committee meetings.

While your suggestion will be given serious consideration, please
be aware that the Committee may not always be able to investigate
every suggestion.
