The Leader of the Council is Councillor Ashley Baxter (Independent Group) who was voted in by a majority of Council members at Full Council in January 2024. Therefore, although the Conservative Group is the largest group on the Council, the Cabinet is selected by the Leader of the Council and contains members from the Democratic Independent Group (2), The Independent Group (3), one member from the Grantham Independents and one Independent Unaligned member.

The main opposition group is the Conservative Group.
